Boiler / HVAC Technician, 3rd Shift

The Boiler Technician maintains the steam and condensation system. This includes but is not limited to: conducting repairs to the auxiliary equipment, boilers and steam traps, conducting preventative maintenance and project work as needed and ensuring operation of chiller and HVAC systems.
Hours can vary but are generally 10 p.m. - 6:15 a.m.
Ways you will make a difference
- Operate automatically fired boilers to generate high pressure steam that supplies heat or power for industrial processes
- Observe pressure/temperature gauges and panel view screens to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators and burners
- Observe boilers and auxiliary units, DA tank and water softener to detect malfunctions in the process
- Maintain total steam and condensate system, piping, PRV’s, strainers, traps, relief valve
- Repair steam traps for correct function, tightening pipes and fittings, isolating and replacing valves
- Test and treat boiler feed water, using specified chemicals; maintain a log of water test results
- Perform PM’s on boilers and auxiliary equipment
- Understand and demonstrate the Company’s core values and operating principles
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, GMP and safety standards; ensure adherence with AIB, SQF and other relevant standards
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Ferrara Candy Company business objectives
Experiences that will support your success
- Minimum of 1 year experience with chillers and a HVAC systems required
- Must hold Chicago Stationary Engineer License Certification by Accredited School or institution.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in the maintenance and repair of related manufacturing and material handling equipment required ; food manufacturing experience strongly preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities, as well as a working knowledge of machinery repair practices, shop practices, use of hand and power tools and electrical testing instruments
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Basic welding skills to include MIG, TIG, SMAW, Brazing, and Soldering is a plus
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic mathematical skills
- Ability to pass certification test on pallet jack and fork lift
- Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to understand detailed written and/or oral instructions
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Promote teamwork; possess a good attitude, and exhibit flexibility and willingness to perform tasks as needed
- Ability to problem solve by adjusting variables in standardized situations
