Product & Process Development Scientist

The Product & Process Development Scientist will develop new products and processes, manage product specifications, and provide front line problem solving for the innovation pipeline. This individual will also be able to anticipate the needs of the R&D and cross-functional partners, and then recommend agile solutions and possibilities.

Ways you will make a difference

•    Leads project design and methodology for various product & process development projects for sugar confectionary innovation
•    Develop new product formulas from bench to pilot scale with consideration for full scale execution while providing technological expertise and ideal process recommendations
•    Create prototypes to bring concepts to life for early concept development of fuzzy front-end innovation
•    Rapid prototype development based on variety of inspiration (e.g. competitive landscaping, category consumer insight, adjacent category innovation, etc.)
•    Translate consumer insights and brand strategy into gold standard prototypes for identification of pipeline innovation projects
•    Consistently deliver concise, accurate and complete reporting of work, leading to robust technical recommendations for both product & process improvements as well as risk identification
•    Document key data from trials, productions and lab activities. 
•    Observes, records, evaluates experimental data and prepares project reports. 
•    Utilize problem-solving tools/statistics to establish process control limits and specifications
•    Collaborate with R&D, Engineering and Manufacturing staff in project execution, technology transfer, and problem solving. 
•    Actively participates in the Innovation process & supports building brands innovation pipelines.
•    Passion for creativity and innovation within a commercially driven environment.
•    Brings new ideas on products and process across the product range.  
•    Provide leadership and support, being able to proactively influence in product & process technical aspects of the network moves across existing brands.
•    Provides strong cross-functional partnership with Marketing, Project management team, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams, to ensure an efficient and successful project progress and execution.
•    Travels, both domestically and internationally (up to 25% of job) 
•    Ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures.  
•    Understands and demonstrates the Company’s core values. 
•    Performs other duties as assigned. 
•    Collaborate with the Manager weekly to ensure full alignment on project initiatives, plans and next steps

Skills that will make you successful

•    Strong knowledge of food science, food chemistry & ingredient functionality
•    Strong knowledge of the product development process and equipment processes/operations
•    Great understanding/appreciation of the broader business environment and application of technical and commercial knowledge during project execution.
•    Creativity in bringing concepts to life through gold standard prototype development based on innovation input inspiration (e.g. brand strategy, competitive product, consumer insights, etc.)
•    Experience in rapid prototyping and/or fuzzy front-end development of protypes preferred
•    Experience in culinary, pastry or confections are a positive
•    Ability to develop commercially successful food products
•    Enjoys working in results oriented team environment
•    Ability to explain complex technical issues / solutions to a non-technical audience. 
•    Diplomacy to promote good relations
•    Strong technical competencies with ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
•    Self-starter, self-motivating: able to balance competing priorities without losing momentum and manage uncertainty and complexity in fast evolving environments.
•    Very Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence with integrity through persuasive communication to win support at more senior levels within R&D, Operations and Supply Chain and to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from different levels, backgrounds and cultures
•    The ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel to Mexico 
 

Experiences that will support your success

•    B.S. Food Science or related field required.
•    M.S. in Food Science or related field preferred
•    3-5 years of relevant work experience in product development in the food industry
